The Norman Rockwell Museum project was developed for an invited competition for a new structure on a site in northwestern Massachusetts. The project balanced functional planning with a need to symbolically express the role of Rockwell as an iconic artist of daily American life. The design combines Dutch-American farmhouse elements with classical planning to represent Rockwell’s fusion of vernacular subjects rendered with a traditional technique of oil painting.
